
The idea of setting up a media development fund in West Africa was conceived in 2005 by the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA), which has worked over the last three years to make it a reality.
MFWA was motivated by the severely challenging economic and financial situation of media in the region where most of the privately owned, independent media organizations are established on weak capitalization and under precarious economic regimes. In its view, such economic threats to the consolidation and strengthening of pluralistic media have serious consequences for the expansion and deepening.... |
